In this chapter, the author thinks that the pearl is equal to hope for the future, and this pearl will let Kino and Juana provide for Coyotito and give him a better life. The discovery of the pearl causes a clear change in the villagers' reactions to Kino and Juana, and it gives Kino great importance. The behavior of the doctor foreshadows great disaster that Kino and Juana should meet with, which the author shows through the no-name thief who attempts to steal the pearl that night. However, I think the author also foreshadows the trouble that Kino would find with pearl buyers. In the description of the pearl buyers, although they are many of them, they are actually only one. The pearl buyers symbolize the mainly outstanding person of La Paz who can exploit Kino.

ReplyDeleteWhen Kino found the pearl, this event would send out to people. these people would treat Kino and Juana very nice because they wanted to get the money from there after the pearl was sold. For Kino, he just found the pearl in order to care Coyotito. He could use the pearl to buy the medicine or any treatments. Although the pearl could let Kino bring the hope and future in his life, it also let him in danger or difficult situation. Because all people knew Kino had a valuable pearl, they may wanted to steal it covertly. If I was Kino, I didn't want to get that pearl because it was too obvious. I would find a tiny pearl that was rare and nobody have seen it before. Although caring someone else is improtant, we still have to notice our life and don't let our life become dangerous, we should have a better life forever.
